Ocean unit art- Pirate coloring sheet with "real gold"

I am currently teaching the Life in the Ocean unit.  On the day that we colored the picture of the pirate we had sung the “Pirate Gets Dressed” song, and had worked with clothing vocabulary a bit.  I had the children color the pirate’s clothes a particular color (“color the shirt red, the pants blue, etc).

For the crowning glory of this simple art project  I then put a drop of glue on both the pirate’s open hand and his pocket, where you see the gold pieces, and sprinkled some gold glitter on it, so it looks like he has gold in his hand and pocket.  It really stands out on the picture and the kids loved it!
